Who We Are?
Frits.
Born and raised in the Netherlands, Frits was exposed to sailing in his teens and was a sailing instructor during summer holidays before moving to university for a degree in mechanical engineering. After working for several companies in Europe he moved to the Middle East to work as a project manager for the Oil and Gas industry.
Liza.
Born and raised in the Philippines and although coming from an island nation Liza was never exposed to sailing before she met Frits. She took a degree in computer science and moved to the Middles East to work as a project administrator / document controller in the Oil and Gas industry. Frits and Liza met in Abu Dhabi.
Living and working in the Middle East
Both Liza and Frits lived and worked in the Middle East for over twenty years and never regretted it. The economies were booming with many projects in every sector. They got married in 2009 and work permitting they jumped into their 4WD exploring the Arabian peninsula. The local population is very hospitable and many cups of tea were shared when visiting remote areas. Liza’s basic skills of the Arabic language opened many doors. Frits’ projects often required work visits to different countries and Liza would accompany him on an extended stay whenever possible. We got infected by the travel bug and after the oil price collapsed in 2015 it was time to evaluate. Projects were put on hold, re-bid or canceled. It was time to move on. The early idea was to continue “over-landing” in a 4WD but that evolved into “over-water” after Liza agreed not to invest in a house (yet). In Nov 2018 we took delivery of what is now our home SV TWO B. After a year of upgrading the boat to full time live-aboard requirements and preparing ourselves we left the Netherlands in Oct 2019.
